I find projects like this to be instance gratification, you spend a few minutes are your sewing machine and suddenly you have created something beautiful. You can use really an medium weight fabric such canvas, linen, satin even. The fusible interfacing adds a professional feel to the whole bag. It's really one of my favourite projects to make and it's so perfect for Mother's Day. It is currently for sale on my Craftsy Pattern Store.

Print off your PDF pattern and assemble all the pages.
Out of your fabric cut out all pieces. You should have two outer pieces, 2 interfacing pieces and two lining pieces.
Make sure to transfer all notches. Apply interfacing to the wrong side of the outer fabric.
Fold pleats and pin in place. Repeat for other side

Press the pleats flat.
Place your zipper face down on your outer piece. Put the lining piece on top. Matching up raw edges. Pin all layers in place.
Using a zipper foot sew all layers together, stop 2-3” away from the edge and move the zipper pull out of the way. Finish sewing the seam.
